Caddisfly Craft
STTWA hosted a Christmas Caddisfly contest in December. Check out our winners! Although the contest is over, you can still decorate a caddisfly--just print out a Caddisfly Craft Template and follow the instructions below. You can also watch a video to learn more about how caddisfly larvae build their amazing cases!
MATERIALS:

Paper tube

Caddisfly template

Scissors

Tape or glue

Crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc.

Optional: stickers, gems, pom-poms, sequins, buttons, twigs, shells, beads, or any other small craft materials.
INSTRUCTIONS:
(Watch the video tutorial if you need help!)
-
Cut the rock/twig pattern apart from the two caddisflies, then cut the case patterns apart (*do not cut the caddisflies apart!).
-
Fold the paper with the caddisflies lengthwise between the two caddisflies. You now have a double-sided caddisfly that can stand.
-
Cut around the bottom only of the body of the caddisfly so it can fit inside the tube (*do not cut anywhere along the fold).
-
Choose one of the case patterns and color.
-
Wrap the pattern around the paper tube and tape or glue it in place.
-
Optional: Decorate the case with other small crafting materials.
-
Color your caddisfly larva and place it in its new case!
